Open source software ( OSS) is license-free computer software which can be used, modified, or distributed freely. There is a misconception that OSS is "second rated" or "prototyped" version of real, proprietary software and it does not has all the features & functions that proprietary software has. The truth is that it is not uncommon for OSS to have more features & better functions than commercial software. This is simply because many professional software developers modify OSS for their own or companies' use, and make those modifications available to everyone. Hence OSS is sometimes more secure and robust than proprietary software. We pick up several software applications and discuss on their features.
